Lavina (Yellowhair Toppah) BigPond 71, passed away November 7, 2020 in Tucson, Arizona after a short battle with cancer. She was born August 17, 1949 at the Lawton Indian Hospital to Beverly John Yellowhair Toppah and Lucille (Ataddlety) Toppah. She graduated from Hobart High School in 1968. She then attended Haskell Institute and graduated in 1970 with a Business Administration Certification.
She moved to Washington D.C. and was employed with the State Department for a number of years. She later returned home to Oklahoma and worked at OCAIHS, and Lawton Indian Hospital. She transferred to Sells, Arizona Indian Hospital from where retired in 2012. She was a proud member of the Kiowa Tribe of Oklahoma.
Her paternal grandparents were Samuel L. Yellowhair Toppah and Julia (Tain-Peah). Her maternal grandparents were Joe Joco (Gaw-Key) Ataddlety and Kla-Koo-Cha, all members of the Kiowa Tribe.
She is survived by two sons, David J. BigPond and Mighty J. BigPond. One daughter-in-law Deshayne Johnson; three grandsons, Micco BigPond, Veho BigPond and Kiowa BigPond; one granddaughter Cheyenne BigPond. She's also survived by one brother Jarman Toppah; two sisters, Justina Quinterro and Modina Waters; as well as many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her brothers, Murphy "Chunky" Toppah and Douglas Toppah; sisters, Anita Schneider, Gilda Toppah and Deanna Ewoldt; niece Modina Kay Mata and nephew Joe Don Waters.
