December 4, 1941 — June 21, 2024

Laverne Thiessen, 82, of Clinton, Oklahoma, passed away on June 21, 2024, at OU Medical Center surrounded by loved ones.

Laverne was born on December 4, 1941, in Cordell, Oklahoma, to Dan and Mildred (Robinson) Young. She was the eldest of three daughters. A passionate sports enthusiast, Laverne excelled in volleyball and basketball during her high school years. In 1958, her basketball team secured the state championship. It was during high school that she met her beloved Terry Thiessen, whom she married shortly after her graduation on September 13, 1959. From their union came two children, Terry Keith Thiessen of Cordell, OK, and Tracy (Thiessen) Hardy of Springhill, TN.

Throughout her life, Laverne held various roles, including a stint as a switchboard operator where she delighted in sharing anecdotes, despite the confidentiality of her position. She later dedicated 16 years to True Value Lumber in Clinton, OK, where she meticulously balanced the books, achieving a perfect reconciliation down to the penny each month-a source of great pride.

Laverne cherished her faith, family, and friendships above all else. She found joy in gathering around the dining table or in front of the TV for game days with her children and grandchildren. Known for her love of a tidy home, vibrant flowers, and football season, Laverne left a lasting impression on all who knew her.
