La Verta Pearl Thomas
December 25, 1938 to May 3, 2016
La Verta Pearl Thomas, 77, peacefully passed away May 3, 2016, in Kemp, Texas. She was born on December 25, 1938 in the lovely town of Carnegie, Oklahoma. She was the beloved wife of the late Nolan Vaugh Thomas (August 13, 2003). Devoted daughter of Thelma Lee Wildman (Harrison) and sister to Gene Harrison (brother). Mother of Tony Lynn Thomas, Valerie and Kelly Logsdon. She loved her grandchildren, Rochelle Thomas, Amanda Thomas and Joel Keough, as well as her great grandchildren, Gracie and Jonah along with nieces, nephews, extended family and many great friends. Proceeded in death by: Willard Clarence Harrison (Father), Nolan Vaugh Thomas (husband), and Terry Lee Thomas (Son).
She made her residence in many different cities such as San Jose, California where she lived for more then 30 years, Carnegie, Oklahoma, and Kemp, Texas. On August 14, 1957 she married Nolan Vaugh Thomas in Clovis, New Mexico. The couple made residence in Amarillo, Texas were she went to Cosmetology School. She became a beautician by trade. She loved styling hair especially to her family and friends. She was also an amazing southern cook, no one wanted to miss a meal at home. She enjoyed all the quality time spent with her family and friends. After her late husband passed away she had the opportunity to move back to her hometown of Carnegie. Where she bought one of the original family farms. She lived there until moving closer to her daughter Valerie in Kemp, Texas.
La Verta had a passion for finding unique collectibles and loved going to flea markets and antique shows to find that special something that she collected. She loved the days of the past and antiques. She gave that collectors bug to her daughter Valerie to carry on the tradition. Her other passion was for Elvis Presley. She was lucky enough to see him in person twice and cherished his music (knowing every word to all of his songs) and collecting his memorabilia. Thus turning her home into an Elvis museum. She was also a Lover of Chocolate. It was said she had a chocolate fang, not a tooth. She loved her Hershey's Candy Bar and always carried one in her purse.
La Verta, your laughter, family traditions and resilience will be with us forever. You will be missed by so many, but your stories will last forever. We heard there was a sighting of you in Graceland standing next to Elvis. We know you are enjoying the concerts in Heaven. We love you and we will see each other soon.
