Kathryn Tate, 82, of Carnegie, OK, passed away at the Carnegie Tri- County Memorial Hospital, on February 12, 2015, after a lengthy illness. She was born on January 13, 1933, to Earl Marcus and Esther Cleo (Dismukes) Splawn, in Leveland ,TX.
She moved with her family at an early to a farm Southeast of Fredrick, OK. Kathryn attended Victory Consolidated School until she was in the 5th grade. At that time, the family moved into Fredrick where she attended school, graduating from Fredrick High School in 1951. She then attended Cameron Junior College in Lawton, OK. She graduated with honors in 1953, and then attended Oklahoma A & M graduating with a degree in Vocational Home Economics in 1955. Kathryn was united in marriage to Billie Dean Tate in Fredrick on June 26, 1955, where they established a home south of Mountain View, OK. She began a teaching career at Sedan High School where she taught for one year, moving in 1956, to Roosevelt, OK. There she taught Vocational Home Economics for three years. Her son was born in 1958, while living at Roosevelt. They moved to Apache in 1960, and their daughter was born that year. In 1962, they moved to Carnegie OK. She taught home economics for a semester in 1963, at Eakly, OK., followed by teaching Junior High Science in Carnegie. The family moved to Weatherford, OK. in 1967, and back to Carnegie in 1968. While in Weatherford, she taught Jr. High Science for one semester in Clinton, OK. Upon returning to Carnegie, she again taught Jr. High Science until she began teaching Home Economics, which she continued to teach until retiring in May of 1988. She was named Teacher of the Year in 1985. In 1997, she was elected to the Carnegie City Council, a position she held until retiring in 2013. While on the council, she served as Mayor of Carnegie from March 2000, until March 2005. She was Named Farm Woman of the Year in 2004, by the Kiowa County Farm Bureau. She was an active member of the Caddo County OSU Alumni Group. She became a christian at an early age, and was a long time member of the Carnegie First Baptist Church, where she served many years as a Sunday School teacher and was in charge of mission books.
She is survived by her husband, Bill Tate, Carnegie, OK.
