Kathryn Diffendaffer

April 21, 1933 — December 12, 2011

Kathryn "Kathy" Diffendaffer left her earthly home to be with her Lord & Savior Monday 12-12-2011 at Altus OK. She was born April 21, 1933 in Mt. Vernon, Texas to Raymond and Lena Byrd. When she was 9 years old the family moved to Retrop OK and then to Washita county northwest of Rocky in 1947. Growing up she lived on farms, helping with farm chores, cooking and tending to her 2 younger sisters.

Kathy attended school at Rocky and while a senior she fell in love with Wade Diffendaffer, They were married on March 13, 1952 in Cordell, OK. Kathy graduated from high school in May of 1952. After marrying the young couple went to work doing whatever jobs they could to make a living. In January of 1953 Wade was drafted into the Army, Kathy moved to be near him. Working at whatever she could find to supplement their income. They returned home January 1955 to resume their farming operations and to start their young family. Peggy was born in may of that same year and J. L. was born in 1959. Peggy lives in Altus and their precious J. L. passed away in 1960 at the age of nine months and 17 days. Kathy nurtured him tenderly all his short life.

Kathy and Wade were always partners in every aspect of their lives together. She hauled many bales of cotton to the gin, moved cattle and cooked countless meals that she carried to the fields to feed Wade and the workers. Later on when they retired they traveled throughout the United States making friends everywhere they went. Wade took up fishing and Kathy took up sewing and making appliqued shirts which she sold to spoil her daughter and granddaughter.

Kathy never required the finest things in life but she was always able to make the things she had the finest anyone could ever want. Kathy was the greatest mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She always went about her tasks with a smile on her face and always willing to help anyone in need.

In 1993 she had the misfortune of becoming a victim of breast cancer. She accepted the challenge with great grit and determination to beat this disease. When she was sewing shirts every time she met or heard of someone with cancer she gave them one of her shirts This was her way of making them feel better about themselves.

Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, one brother Harlon , three other siblings and her beloved J. L.. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 59 years Wade, daughter Peggy Diffendaffer of Altus, granddaughter, Tami Drake and husband Tommy of Duncan along with her great grand children Kali, Emily and Hagen also of Duncan who are the light of her life.
