Kateri Kay Tekakwitha Ahtone

Kateri Kay Tekakwitha Luther Ahtone, affectionately known by many as Ms. Kay, 63, of Anadarko, Oklahoma went to her heavenly home on Tuesday, February 1, 2022 surrounded by family and friends. Kateri Kay was born August 6, 1958 in Lawton, Oklahoma to Sylvester and Eva (Guy) Luther.
Kay was born and raised in Anadarko, Oklahoma and was a member of the Wichita and Affiliated Tribes. She attended school at Anadarko Public School and was a proud member of the graduating class of 1976. While attending school at Anadarko, she was active in basketball, track and FFA and earned many honors throughout her high school career. Kay went on the further her education at the University of Oklahoma and Central State, currently known as University of Central Oklahoma before returning to Anadarko to care for her parents. Kay served as the 1976 Wichita Tribal Princess.
Ms. Kay loved sports and was an avid fan of Oklahoma Football, Oklahoma City Thunder and the Dallas Cowboys. She was an avid supporter of all Anadarko Athletics and would proudly say, �Once a Warrior, Always a Warrior.' Prior to her health troubles, Kay would not miss a basketball or football game and enjoyed visiting with her friends at the games.
Ms. Kay previously worked as a dispatcher for the Bureau of Indian Affairs. She met many life-long friends throughout her time there and would share her Law Enforcement stories whenever she had a chance. Kay also worked in the Oil and Gas portion of the Bureau of Indian Affairs following her years as a dispatcher. After the death of her husband, she spent some time at home caring for her grandchildren. For the last 16 years, she worked as the secretary/receptionist for the Wichita and Affiliated Tribes. Ms. Kay loved the work she did for the Wichita Tribe and was her happiest when she was at the Tribal Complex. She loved answering the phones at the tribal complex, working for and helping her tribal people. Kay loved working at and participating in the numerous tribal events and would be there no matter what. The Wichita Annual was her favorite time of the year and you could always find her at the dance grounds from Flag Raising to Prayer Song.

Children: Darren M. Luther of Anadarko, Oklahoma; Shannon L. Ahtone of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Juanita K. "Nee-Kaye" Moore and her husband, Bryant Moore of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Arissa Ahtone and Alice Ahtone of Anadarko, Oklahoma.
Brothers: Robert Walker and his wife, Christi of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Richard Willis and his wife, Judith of Moore, Oklahoma.
Her pride and joy, her 14 Grandchildren: BreeAnn Wetselline, Sylvester Luther, Autumn Luther, Jeremih Williams, Ky Williams, Angel Elizarraras, Ryan Ahtone, Eva Walker, Alexis Ahtone-Abbott, Elora Moore, Hadrian Moore, Caius Moore, Kamden Guy and Kelecia Guy
Three great-grandchildren: Nyla Prince, Jakoby Howell and Riley Howell
Very special friends, all her co-workers/family members at the Wichita and Affiliated Tribes; her friends and family at the Bureau of Indian Affairs
