Karen Callen, 63, of Roosevelt, Oklahoma, passed away Wednesday, May 1, 2013. She was born September 8, 1949 in Arlington, Virginia to Barbara and Elmo Jensen. Karen grew up in Virginia, but also lived in several other locations in the Southwest and Northwest. For the past 35 years, she and her husband, Nick Callen, have lived on and worked Springhill Farms, southeast of Roosevelt.
Karen had an undergraduate degree in Biology and a Masters' degree in Public Administration. She worked for Cameron University for a time, first as Assistant Director of the Research Center and later as the Assistant Director of the Open Doors program, which was instrumental in helping at-risk children stay on a college-bound track. She and her family had a commercial kitchen at their ranch, Springhill Farms, and Karen and Nick made and sold many delicious breads, cookies, salsas, and granola, to name a few. These products were shipped nationwide and sold in various businesses in the area.
Karen is survived by her husband, Nick Callen. Also surviving are two sons, Blane and Susan Callen of Norman, OK and Seth Callen of Lawton and grandchildren, Garrett Callen, Melissa Callen, Chance Callen, Josie Callen and baby Nick Callen. Karen is also survived by her mother, Barbara Jensen, of Hadlock, Washington and and by her mother-in-law, Lottie Callen of Roosevelt. She is also survived by her sisters and brothers in law, Barb and Willard Aldrich, Kirsten Asta, Jodie and Mark Tighe, Mary Janet and Ron Gilbert, Dale and Merrilee Callen, Paul and Diane Callen and dozens of other cousins, nieces and nephews, and many lifelong friends.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Grant Reed Waugh, father, Elmo Jensen, father-in-law, Jim Callen, and granddaughter, Allyson Callen.
