Josephine (Standing) Parker, 66 of Gracemont, Oklahoma began her journey with the Creator August 10, 2014, at her residence in Gracemont, Oklahoma. She was born April 20, 1948 to Phillip & Nettie (Lara) Standing in Lawton, Oklahoma. Josephine graduated from Gracemont High School. She went on to graduate from the Oklahoma College of Liberal Arts, (also known as University of Science & Arts of Oklahoma) where she received a Bachelor of Science degree. As an OCLA student, she was also a member of the OCLA women's fastpitch softball team as a pitcher. Josephine was also an accomplished seamstress and craftsman. Her specialty was making traditional regalia and beadworking. She was a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church. She was a founding member of the Southern Plains Indian Museum Association and the Indian Arts & Crafts Cooperative where she served in various official board positions. She was a proud member of the Kiowa Tribe of Oklahoma. Josephine loved finding bargains at garage sales and thrift stores. She also loved adventure as she had traveled from Florida to Tijuana, Mexico and Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada to Niagra Falls and all points in between.
Survivors include her husband, Elton Parker of the home; two daughters Beth Parker and her husband Bruce Birch of Gracemont, Oklahoma; Jill Parker-Fields and her husband Jesse Fields of Anadarko, Oklahoma; and one son Kenton Parker of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; four grandchildren Alex and Maggie Birch of Gracemont, Oklahoma; and Hayla and Jo Jo Parker-Fields of Anadarko, Okalhoma; two sisters, LaVerna Capes of Anadarko, Oklahoma and Donna Steinberg of Gracemont, Oklahoma; two brothers Alfred & Marge Standing of Mesquite, Texas; and Mike & Joyce Standing of Guthrie, Oklahoma; her special and very faithful companion Tomas, as well as host of life long special friends from across the United States. Josephine was preceded in death by her parents, one brother McKinley Standing and one sister Ardina McAdams.
