Joe G. Gomez, 78, of Carnegie, OK, left his earthly home and went to join his Heavenly Creator at 9:34am on March 11th, 2011. Joe was born in 1932 at St. Anthony's hospital in Oklahoma City, to the late Louis and Josephine Gomez. He attended school at Columbus and Westwood, Jr. High at Jackson and St. Joseph's and graduated from Central High School in Oklahoma City, OK. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1950 and was in the 82nd. Airborne Division. In 1952 he volunteered to go to Korea and served there fourteen months as a parachutist and machine gunner on the front lines at the battles of Old Baldy and Pork Chop Hill. After he was discharged he was employed at Wilson Food for 34 years. In October 1954 he married Nancy Quoetone at Little Flower Catholic Church in Oklahoma City. They had three children. Two sons and one daughter. He managed and coached the Haye's Tigers elementary school baseball for 8 years. One year his team played in the state tournament. He was also a football coach for the South Side Bears in the Optimist league. In 1985 he retired from Wilson Foods and moved into the Carnegie area. Joe was a past member of the Carnegie Rotary Club, Carnegie American Legion, and President of the Carnegie Tri-County Fair in 1988, and Carnegie Rural Water #3 as a board member. Joe was also an India Shriner of Oklahoma City. In 2001 he served as the commander of the Legion of Honor, their military unit. In the Shriners, he volunteered his time to transfer children to the Shriner's Hospitals at Shreveport, Louisiana and Galveston, Texas. He enjoyed these many trips with the children and they benefited from his sense of humor. He was also a 32nd. degree Scottish rite Mason in the Guthrie consistory and a Brother of the Blue Lodge #294 of Carnegie. Through all of the organizations that he was in he met and made a lot of friends. Joe was a member of St. Richard's Catholic Church in Carnegie where he served as proclaimer of the Word and Eucharistic minister. Joe lived a long and blessed life; he was known by his sense of humor and never met a stranger.

three sisters, Ophelia Gomez, Hope Watson and Anna Marie Ellis
two sister-in laws, Elsie Gomez and Becky Gomez, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Everett, Samuel and Raynaldo and two great grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6pm-7pm., Tuesday March 15, 2011 at St. Richards Catholic Church, Carnegie, OK
Rosary will be at 7pm., Tuesday March 15, 2011 at St. Richards Catholic Church, Carnegie, OK
Mass of Christian Burial: 10:00am., Wednesday March 16, 2011 at St. Richards Catholic Church, OK
