John Wayne Latham

June 26, 1927 — November 28, 2017

Lubbock- John Wayne (J.W.) Latham of Lubbock, Texas, went peacefully to be with his Heavenly Father on November 28, 2017. He was born on June 26, 1927 in Sentinel, Oklahoma. He was the son of Wallis Latham (Bessie) and Myrtle Seals. John was married to his wife and best friend of 67 years, Frankie Slatten Latham. They were married on December 25, 1948 in Cordell, Oklahoma.
He loved spending time with family and friends and being "PaPa" to his grandchildren. Many memories were made for them with golf cart rides (always searching for bears and deer), fishing afternoons, Sea World excursions, picnics and visits to his and Gram's house throughout the years. He shared wonderful life lessons with his family and loved to make them laugh. He will be remembered as a loyal and caring husband, father, grandfather and friend.

He worked in retail management throughout his career to include top sales status with CR Anthony, and was co-owner of a Gibson's Discount franchise. In his retirement he enjoyed golf with Frankie and his Riverhill friends. His kind and generous spirit was shared with not only family, but friends and co-workers who knew him.

John is survived by his son Richard Latham (Shirley) of Abilene; daughters, Janet Drabek (Joe) of Lubbock; and Deborah Worstell (Dave) of Williamsburg, Virginia; 4 grandchildren, Spencer Latham (Emily) of Bonham; Allison Hillenbrand (Chris) of Lubbock; Tiffany Latham of Abilene; and Amber Drabek of San Antonio; five great-grandchildren, Tomas and Liliana of Abilene; Jackson and Troy of Bonham and Hailey of Lubbock; and sister, Alma Edson of Broken Bow, OK.

He is preceded in death by his wife Frankie Slatten Latham; parents, Wallis (Bessie) Latham and Myrtle Seals; sister, Delona Hicklin; brothers-in-law, Hurlin Hicklin and Merle Edson.
