Joe Dall Maddox was born on October 5, 1945, in Cordell, Oklahoma to TF and Katy Leoma (Sturgeon) Maddox. He passed away peacefully on January 25, 2025, surrounded by his family. Joe attended Cloud Chief schools through the 8th grade and completed his high school education at Cordell High School, graduating in 1963. He married Wanda Young on March 29, 1963, in Cordell, Oklahoma, where they welcomed and raised their three children: Bobby, Danny, and Jennifer. They moved to Wilburton, Oklahoma, where Joe played basketball at Eastern Oklahoma A & M for two years. Then, he attended Southwestern State College in Weatherford, Oklahoma, where he completed his degree and graduated in May 1967. After college, Joe and Wanda made their home in Cordell, Oklahoma, where Joe taught for one year at Dill City Schools. He decided that was not his passion. He returned to his first love of cattle and farming with his father, TF, and brothers. After dissolving Maddox Land and Cattle, Joe founded MX Livestock in 1981, where he worked as a cattle buyer. He continued in this role while also pursuing other ventures. A year later, Joe and his wife, Wanda, purchased Sports Stuff Sporting Goods, selling sports equipment, clothing, and shoes, making custom uniforms and silk screen printing. Joe found great joy in this new business, as it aligned with his passion for sports and his vibrant personality.
In his spare time, Joe would travel far and wide to find the best ball games. From his early playing days to watching his grandchildren play, his love for sports was undeniable. This passion allowed him to spend quality time supporting his grandchildren. Joe cherished moments with his family, attending his children's and grandchildren's sports and activities. His family could always rely on him to lighten the mood or share a comment that would spark laughter. His grandchildren have countless stories of their time with him at the farm, riding in his classic "beat up" pick-ups, and the invaluable life lessons he imparted, which they will cherish forever. Joe was fortunate enough to experience life with his great-grandchildren as they brought smiles, laughter, and joy to his life.
Joe lived life to the fullest, doing what he enjoyed to the very end. Whether it be playing cards at the shop with his life-long friends or continuing to fuel the fire with his love of buying cattle, Joe actively engaged with those he loved and cherished every relationship he built.
