Joann Freie

JoAnn Freie, 86, passed away Tuesday, March 8, 2022, in OKC, OK. She was born at home in Spring Creek, OK to Freeman and Lula Mae (Dabney) Steenbergen on September 27, 1935.
She attended Spring Creek school until the family moved to Anadarko, OK. She attended a country school until the 5th grade then graduated Anadarko Public School in 1953. JoAnn loved riding horses and was in the high school pep club. She worked seasonal jobs in the Anadarko area. She had a very good friend growing up. They spent the teenage years riding together and would race the horses to see who the best rider was. One great thing about her childhood was her mom and families were at different homes every weekend. It was wonderful.
JoAnn got a job in 1954 then called Welfare department and moved to OKC, OK. She lived in OKC, OK until 1957 and transferred to Caddo County DHS office and retired after 35 years. She assisted and loved meeting people while at Smith, Steverson and Ray and Martha's Funeral Home.
JoAnn married Bert Freie. They farmed and had 3 boys, Eddie, Timmy, and Donnie. JoAnn loved Bert. He was a wonderful husband and father. Bert worked hard and was always eager to take the family on vacation. He passed away in 1981. She continued to work. JoAnn moved to Anadarko three years later and purchased a home in town. The boys were all grown and on their own with families. She did a lot of Square Dancing for a few years. JoAnn loved her family and enjoyed family gatherings with her 9 grandchildren. She and her grandchildren spent wonderful summers together.
She was baptized at the Virginia Avenue Baptist Church. She loved her Lord.
JoAnn is preceded in death by her: husband, Bert; parents, Freeman and Lula Steenbergen; 2 brothers
