James "Jim" Terrill Prough departed this life April 12, 2024, in Edmond, Oklahoma, age
76 years. Jim was born May 13, 1947, in Hobart, Oklahoma, to Amasa James "AJ" and Evella Elizabeth (Flowers) Prough of Gotebo, Oklahoma. He spent his childhood learning to farm at his dad's side on the same land his grandfather had homesteaded south of Gotebo. He was a mischievous boy who never met a stranger. Tales of his misdeeds were retold in the family well into his adult years, much to the delight of his own children. From accidentally setting the yard on fire to stuffing magazines down his pants before his mother spanked him, his family found his antics hilarious. He had an
infectious sense of humor and always teased those he loved most.
He enjoyed riding horses and had a buckskin horse named Buck, who he always
claimed was the best horse that had ever lived. During his teenaged years, he also rode
bulls for a time. It was during his youth that he began fostering his fascination with
geology and mud logging. Growing up as a farm boy, Jim could fix anything. He also
had an amazing breadth of knowledge about everything from farming to American
history to technology.
He had been raised going to the lake and water skiing. He passed along that love of
water sports to his children (and through them to his grandchildren). Many family
vacations were spent camping at Ft. Cobb Lake with his wife and children, his sisters
with their families, and his parents. Days were spent on the water boating and skiing,
then card games went on until late in the night. Those vacation weeks were always
filled with sunshine and laughter.
He attended Gotebo schools and graduated in 1966. He married Della Page shortly
after graduation, and together, they had two sons and a daughter. To support his
growing family, he worked various construction jobs in early adulthood. However, his
two passions of farming/ranching and mud logging eventually became his lifelong
careers. Through mud logging, he even spent some time in Ecuador. He eventually
made a home south of Gotebo, where he raised his children.
He attended Beacon Baptist Church in Gotebo for years. Prior to moving to Edmond in
2022, he was regularly attending Russell Baptist Church.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents AJ and Evella Prough, his two sons: James
"Jim" Darian and Craig Alan, step-son Edward Garvin, and his eldest sister, Olive Faye
Hodges.
He is survived by wife Linda (Campbell) Prough of Amarillo, Texas, daughter Amie
Elizabeth Fooshee (husband Eric) of Edmond, Oklahoma, sister Donna Kay Franklin of
Gotebo, Oklahoma, two grandsons: Brayden James Prough (wife Jilian) of Barrington,
Illinois, and Kaleb Craig Prough (wife Lindsey) of Tacoma, Washington, three
granddaughters: Madilynn "Maddie" Faith Prough (fianc Zane Long) of Guthrie,
Oklahoma, and Aubrey Grace Fooshee and Elizabeth "Ellie" Hope Fooshee both of
Edmond, Oklahoma, great-granddaughter Junee James and great-grandsons Beau
Stephen and Wynn Wells Prough, all of Barrington, Illinois, and Ridge Jameson Long of
Guthrie, Oklahoma, nephew Torey Franklin and nieces Courtney Goergen and Hollye
Hawkins as well as step-daughter-in-law Crystal Conner, and step-grandsons
Christopher, Joshua, and Daniel Garvin.
