Jennie B. Elix
Obituary
February 17, 1933 to January 25, 2016

On January 25, 2016 Jennie B. Elix (Jennie B) went home to be with the Lord and her husband Amos during her sleep. Jennie was 82 years old. Jennie leaves behind a son, Jerry and his wife Shelley and Jerry's former wife Stephanie Burgess, and three grandchildren, Nakira Elix, Mercedes Elix, and Branda Pope.
Jennie was born on February 17, 1933 in the small farming community of Frost, TX to parents Theodore Roosevelt Nelson and Wilma Banks Nelson. She was the eldest of six children. Her sister Arlee Nelson and brother Frank Nelson preceded her in death. Surviving siblings are sisters Hattie Timms and Rena Cofer, and brother Tommy Nelson all residing in Fort Worth TX.
On January 13, 1953 she eloped and married the love of her life Amos Elix in Albuquerque, NM. Where they stayed for a number of years while Amos was in the Army, and Jennie worked as a housekeeper. In the mid 1960's, the family moved to Seattle, WA. In the late 1960's, Jennie and Amos moved to Oklahoma City, Ok, where in 1971, they adopted their son Jerry. In 1972 the family moved to Hobart, OK where Jennie, in 1978, received her GED.
Wanting to stay home with her son, Jennie started her daycare from 1979 to 1987. In 1988, Jennie took a job with Hobart Public Schools as a cook until her first retirement in May 1998. At that time, Jennie and Amos went traveling around the country visiting friends and family until Amos became ill in 2009. Jennie went back to work for Hobart Public Schools full time to assist supporting Amos. On December 18, 2011 Amos went home to be with the Lord, and Jennie said that she would never be the same. Jennie continued to work for Hobart Public Schools until March 2015, when she was diagnosed with Colon Cancer. She moved to Fort Worth, TX to live with her sisters Hattie and Rena where she underwent Chemotherapy. During this time, Jennie seemed to have improved, and took part in a wonderful Christmas celebration where she sang "Precious Lord" in front of many friends and family. Jennie's health began to decline, and she went to be with the Lord on the night of January 25, 2016 with family around her.
