Mrs. Jean Anne Dugger
"Life is what happens to us while you're busy making other plans" a threaded needlepoint hangs at the end of the front door's walkway before turning into the living room.
Jean! Jean Anne Cowherd was born on February 23, 1951, in Holdenville, Oklahoma to James Walter Cowherd and Maxine Thelma Johnson of Waleeka, Oklahoma. Walter and Maxine grew up together and were briefly separated by the next Great War. After the war, they married and lived in Wetumka. They had three children: older brother Jimmy and sisters Jean Anne and Jane Alice. Walter was a United States Air Force flight line Quality Control expert civilian whose orders traveled the new family to Japan where they grew up as kids. The Air Force brought the family stateside to Vandenburg AFB missile launch site and the couple would drive into work together residing in Lompoc, California (known for the US flag made of tulips and nearby Solvang, California where it looks and smells like Christmas all year).
Jean and Jane attended Oklahoma Christian Community College (OCCC). In college, Jean met a strong red-haired freckled man with a boyish grin who could fix anything, marrying Steve Albert. She mothered two sons Jimmy and Mikey, known for their striking looks and dubious sense of humor. Jean graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Home Economics and worked at Bethany hospital as a dietician. Jean and Steve divorced after 17 years.
Jean deeply desired a godly relationship and found just that in John Dugger, a former pastor and local businessman in Anadarko, Oklahoma. She admired his knowledge of the bible. John can instantly hoot up a song banging on the bones and keys. Jean assisted John with his insurance business, which they ultimately closed to start building Cedar Canyon ranch also closing up their Anadarko home relocating only the piano. Dearly in love with each other, they would dance a little twist in the living room.
Cedar Canyon was their heaven on Earth. They were in love with the scenery, purposefully picking the site to start construction on the new home. The cattle and horses are their closest neighbors. Jean loved to sit in the pickup with John as they would ride the ridge, tend to the cows and yelling Moo Cow! at appropriate times or simply ride quietly together. She would personally take on a horse companion, including Tuxedo, Fancy, and even the one that bucked her and broke her back. She got back on the horse.
Jean was a ceramicist, a master florist, loved sock hop music, ice cream and worked to have a garden each year. She topped 5-feet tall with heels, yet bold and still the kindest person you would ever meet. Jean loved to figure things out and was a true do-it-yourself woman and was very good at it, a fantastic cook to boot. She would ask your favorite meal and then would make it for you. She loved having her family over, believed in them, and reunions were a true joy. She died of lung failure Thursday September 5th while considering a recipe. Jean was simply a shining yellow rose of Anadarko.
Jean is survived by husband John Dugger, John's and her boys' families. October 5th would be their 28th wedding anniversary. She loved John very much.
