Janis S. VanAntwerp, 69 of Carnegie, OK went to be with the Lord, on Saturday, July 18, 2015, in Oklahoma City, OK. She was born September 28, 1945 in Willis, OK to C V and Pauline (Peevey) Cryer. Janis attended Tipton, OK Schools, graduating with the class of 1963.
Janis married Jerry Cheek on February 6, 1966 in Frederick, OK. To this union was born a Daughter, Pamela Latralle, who died at birth, and two sons, Ricky Don and David Wayne.
She later married George VanAntwerp on June 16, 1982, in Vernon, TX. Janis was very involved with her children while growing up, especially with the Boy Scouts. Janis worked at several things in her life, but her most proud accomplishment was that she became the first woman to receive her paramedic license in Tillman County. She and George together as a team ran the Tillman County Ambulance for many years, and she was also the office manager of the ambulance. She attended the Nazarene Church.
Survivors include, her husband, George of the home, two sons, Ricky and his wife Elizabeth of Lawton, OK, David and his wife, Branka of Carnegie, OK; one stepson, Brad VanAntwerp of Missouri; eleven grandchildren, Nikki Miller of Huntsville, TX, Quade Cheek of Frederick, OK, Mercedes Parker of Denton, TX, Zachary Johnson of Madill, OK, Ricky Cheek Jr., Whitney and Brooklin, all of Lawton, OK, Justin Pickard of Oklahoma City, OK, Chad Porter of Louisiana, and Cooper and Chloe Cheek of Carnegie; and one great grandchild, Raylee Porter of Carnegie; three sisters, Doris Romines, Brenda Henson and husband, Tommy of Tipton, OK and Reba Sheffield and husband, Donnie of Frederick, OK; one brother, Gerald Cryer and wife, Barbara of Electra, TX.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Pamela and her parents, also two brothers, Wayland and Bobby Cryer, a brother-in-law, Alvie Romines, and one nephew, U.S. Navy Seaman Chris Henson.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at the Nazarene Church in Carnegie. Officiating will be Rev. Chip Perkins and Bro. Jerry Tate. Interment will follow at the Carnegie Cemetery under the direction of Ray and Martha's Funeral Home of Carnegie.
