James Mathis, 83, Roosevelt, OK, died Sunday, July 22nd, 2012 at Lawton, OK. He was born January 20, 1929 near Mountain View, OK to Everett and Susie (Block) Mathis. He attended school at Roosevelt, OK and later joined the U. S. Army Air Corps in l946 and retired from the U. S. Air Force in l968, serving in World War II, Korean Conflict and Vietnam Wars. James married Ruth Ann Forister on February 17, 1951 and she preceded him in death May 5, 2001. He was a member of the First Baptist Church at Roosevelt, OK, a member of the Disabled American Veterans and the Masonic Lodge. James married Velma (Cotton) Talley, Aug 31, 2002 at Hobart, OK. James was an avid golfer and fisherman.

He was preceded in death by his first wife Ruth Ann, 2001, son Chuck Mathis, 1995, two brothers, Loyal and Cecil Mathis, a step daughter, Tanda Talley and a step son, Nicky Don Talley.

Funeral Service: 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at the First Baptist Church, Roosevelt, OK with the pastor, Rev. Tim Tutten, officiating.
