James C. Harris

James Harris, 86, Hobart, passed away on Wednesday, February 18, 2015, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He was born on May 27, 1928, in Boyd, Texas, to Clyde and Maggie (McConnell) Harris. James moved to the Hobart area with his parents at the age of one. He was baptized at First United Methodist Church in 1938, at the age of 10. James graduated Hobart High School in 1946. After graduating high school he drove a taxi, worked for Wright Produce on an area route before starting to do some farming in partnership with his brother Adron, then with Lester Standerfer, before being out on his own. Later, Marshall and Zac joined the family operation. James married Willa Mae Funkhouser on August 12, 1950, in Hobart, Oklahoma, she preceded him in death in 1999. He married Lena Rutledge on January 6, 2001, in Hobart, Oklahoma. In his later years James sprayed mesquites, and shredded around farms, also cleaning pastures. He was a steward of land. James took pride in farming and ranching. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Hobart.

He is survived by his wife Lena, of the home

one daughter: Linda Carol Goodin, Oklahoma City, OK
five grandchildren: Zac, Audra, and Scott Harris, Michael and Kelly Goodin
five great-grandchildren: Kenda, Rylan and Trale' Harris, Grace and Andrew Goodin


He is preceded in death by his parents, first wife Willa Mae (1999), two brothers, Vernon (1995), and Adron (2014), one son-in-law Ralph Goodin


Funeral Services: 1:30 p.m., Saturday, February 21, 2015
First United Methodist Church, Hobart, OK
Officiating: Rev. Tim Tutten and Rev. Alvin Funkhouser
Burial: Hobart Rose Cemetery, Hobart, OK, under the direction of Ray & Martha's Funeral Home, Hobart.
