James William "Togamote" (Got Off in Front of the Enemy), Thay-Nay-Soy-Hay (Blue Jay)" Hainta was born on April 14th, 1946 in Lawton, OK to Taft and Mattie (Daugomah) Hainta. James passed away January 15, 2012 at his home in Mountain View. He graduated from Carnegie High School in 1964 and Haskell Institute in 1966. He was drafted into the United States Army in October, 1966 and served in Viet Nam from 1967 to 1968. He retired in 2002 after 35 years with the Indian Health Service. He was a member of the Kiowa Tribe and The Kiowa gourd Clan.
He married Jackie Mammedaty in 1969 in Phoenix, Arizona and celebrated 42 years of marriage in July 2011. They had five children.

two adopted sons: Michael Smith, Scottsdale, AZ

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Joseph Taft Hainta, two sisters: Arlene McLemore and Mary Virginia Hainta, one grandson, Jonavan Thomas.
