Jackie Lynn West Russell passed away on June 8, 2019 at her family home in Hobart, OK. She bravely and gracefully fought against her diagnoses of Alzheimer's Disease.
Jackie was born on January 25, 1954 to Jack O. West and Mary Imogene Gilmore West in Oklahoma City. She graduated from Putnam City High School in 1972. A classically trained dancer for most of her youth, she chose to attend Oklahoma State University and was a member of the Delta Delta Delta Sorority. After graduating with her degree in Elementary Education, she began her career as a teacher in the Putnam City School District.
On November 14, 1977, Jackie was set up on a blind date with the tallest man her friend could find. Thankfully, dinner went well and on March 15, 1980, Jackie and lawyer Norman L. Russell were wed in the Angie Smith Chapel of Oklahoma City University, the groom's Alma Mater. The young couple traveled to Hawaii, Mexico, Canada and soon began their family with daughter Audrey, son Cole, and daughter Victoria.
As a young mother, Jackie successfully completed a Masters of Education graduate degree from the University of Central Oklahoma. She annually took leadership roles in her church's vacation bible school and encouraged her distinct children's talents and interests. She loved beagle dogs, her monthly bunko card club, was a skilled downhill skier, tailgated Oklahoma State Football games, and was known in several counties for her [classified] chocolate chip cookie recipe.
When spouse Norman was appointed Associate District Judge of Kiowa County, Jackie accepted a position as a middle school math teacher in Altus, OK. In Altus, she would be recognized as Teacher of the Year three separate years. As a teacher and a mother, she was known for her compassionate heart, high standards of personal betterment and sharp sense of humor. Despite the commute, she was dedicated to her coworkers and the military-family student body of the Altus School District, and mentored a series of student teachers.
Jackie is survived by her husband, the Honorable Norman L. Russell (retired), her children Audrey, Cole, and Victoria; son-in-law Nathan Lunsford; Grandchildren Hazel Kate, Lydia Rose, and Jett Russell; sister Sherry Tabor and family... and three decades of Oklahoma Students.
