Jack Dan Haley, 84 of Cooperton, Oklahoma, noted Historian, Rancher, and Professor Emeritus of the University of Oklahoma passed away Thursday, June 2nd, 2016 at OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City. Jack was born July 4, 1931 at the family ranch in the Cooperton Valley to his parents, Dan Louis Haley and Frances Ellen (Williams) Haley. He graduated from Cooperton High School and attended OU for his undergraduate and graduate degrees. Later after his army military service he returned as a history professor, researcher, and manuscripts specialist for the OU Western History Collections.
During the construction of the Oklahoma History Center, Jack served as president of the Oklahoma Historical Society and contributed to the planning and execution of the construction. He was also inducted into the Oklahoma Hall of Fame for his many contributions to Oklahoma history.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dan and Frances Haley and his sister Loretta Rae von Tungeln.
Jack is survived by his sister, Lily Deen Runividge of Altus, Oklahoma
niece Sheryl and husband John Ellis of Dallas, Texas
nephew Louis ("Moe") von Tungeln of Cooperton, Oklahoma
nephew Kevin and wife Sue von Tungeln of Altus, Oklahoma
