J. W. Hendrix

J. W. “Jake†Hendrix, 81, of Checotah and formerly of Cyril, was born September 16, 1932, in Fort Cobb, to R.G. and Alta (Bradshaw) Hendrix. He passed from this life on Thursday, March 13, 2014, at the Cornerstone Solara Hospital in Muskogee.
Jake was raised in Gracemont and attended the Gracemont Public Schools. He joined the U.S. Navy in December, 1952, and served 4 years; 2 of which were proudly served onboard the U.S.S. Kidd. Jake was honorably discharged in December, 1956. At which time, he was transferred to the U.S. Naval Reserve where he served four more years. He was self- employed as a heavy equipment operator for many years and owned BBQ restaurants in Cyril and Carnegie.
His hobbies included going fishing, shopping garage sales and restoring old tractors. Jake also enjoyed watching old westerns, traveling and loved spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents and one son, Mark W. Hendrix.
He is survived by his wife, Ilamae, of Checotah; two children, Larry James Hendrix and his wife, Peggy of Minco and Sandy Brown and her husband Britt, of Canyon, Texas; three step-children, Don Davis and his wife, Diane of Henderson, Texas, Sheila Harp and her husband, Sam of Perkins, Oklahoma and LaVoyd Davis and his wife, Linnie of Cyril; five grandchildren, Shelley Gaus and her husband, Cliff, of Allen, Texas, Jami Marcum and her husband, Colter of Pearland, Texas, Juli Maddy and her husband, Brad of Saginaw, Texas, Lori Hendrix of Minco and Jana Hutcherson of Canyon, Texas, two siblings, Glenn Hendrix and his wife, Lawanna, of Duncan and Betty McLemore and her husband, Wilford of Gracemont; six great grandchildren, numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends.
