J.V. Rhodes, 89, of Carnegie, OK passed away Saturday November 26th, 2011 at his residence in Carnegie, OK. He was born July 19th, 1922 in Chickasha, OK to John Walter and Rillie (Vernon) Rhodes. He moved to Carnegie at a very early age. He attended Carnegie School. J.V. entered the United States Army in 1942 and served until 1946. He served in the ETO with the 10th. Armored Division. He received European Theatre of Operations Ribbon with three Battle Stars, Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal for Normandy, Rhineland and Ardennes. After returning home in 1946, he started working for Kelly's Grocery Store in Carnegie. He remained in the grocery business working as store manager and later opened his own store. He married Alice Brewster in 1947. He later divorced and married the former Bonita Horn. J.V. was active in the First Baptist Church for many years. He also was a Gideon for a number of years and also a member of the American Legion. He loved the grocery business and working with people.

He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Rhonda Abthi, three brothers and three sisters.
Services: 2:00p.m., Monday, November 28, 2011 at the First Baptist Church, Carnegie, OK
Officiating: Dr. Arthur Blount and Rev. Edde Whitley
Burial will follow at the Carnegie Cemetery, Carnegie, OK
