Ines Barris

Inas Waneta Steel Shields Barris passed away on Thursday, February 4, 2016, at Hobart Nursing & Rehab in Hobart, Ok. She was born to Ruth Mahaly Bean Steel and Robert Wesley Steel on March 29, 1922 in Pickens, Ok. She attended Rough Edge School with her brothers and sisters until her mother died. She married Elvis Franklin Shields May 14, 1938 at Mena, Arkansas. They were married for 49 years when Elvis died. Later she married David Aaron Barris. They were married for 13 years.

Mrs. Barris was accomplished in painting, quilting, gardening, sewing of all kinds, and cooking. She loved camping and traveling with her husband Elvis. She is the mother of two children: Paul Anthony Shields and Dr. Nedra Carole Shields Sears. Paul and his wife Susan live in Hobart, Oklahoma, while Nedra and her husband William Mackey Sears III live in Ada, Oklahoma.

Mrs. Barris has four grandchildren: Christine Aline Shields Throneberry and her husband Scott live in Richman Hills. Texas. They are the parents of 2 great grandchildren, Ellen Marie Throneberry and Evan Scott Throneberry.

Salli Su Sears Wandke and her husband Harold live in Tulsa, Ok. William Mackey Sears IV and his wife, Rhonda Ogle Sears live in Talihina, Ok. Great grandchildren include Heather Renee Sears Plumber and husband Kelly of Stillwater, Oklahoma; Ryan Sears of Pineville, La, and Summer Dawn Sears Castle and husband Josh of Talihina, Ok. Great, great grandchildren include Sammy and Wyatt Plumber of Stillwater and Bryer and Brooklyn Castle of Talihina.
Grandson Brant Elvis Sears Merryman and his wife Christina live in Austin, Texas. Great grandchildren include Bobbi Merryman of Albuquerque; Ahna Merryman, Elliott Merryman, Liam Carter Merryman of Austin and Lucy Luca Sears of St. Louis, Mo.

Mrs. Barris's brothers and sisters who have predeceased her include
Robert Andrew Steel, Allie Lou Steel, Gertrude Leola Steel Whisinhunt, Rosser Alexander Steel, Wesley Steel Jr, Stella Ophelia Steel Lawrence, Bessie Ayzell Steel Copeland Sanders, Dottie May Steel Watson, and Lottie Fay Steel.

Mrs. Barris's Grandparents include Robert and Elizabeth Steel of Peken, North Carolina. Her Maternal Grandfather was Bailey A. Bean of Ozark Township, Arkansas.

Mrs. Barris is survived by three special nieces: Thelma Rowan of Prineville, Arkansas and her family, Yvonne Paxton and Sybil Spradlin of Bakersfield, California and their families.

Burial will be at Antlers, Cemetery. Date has not been determined.
