Howard Walter Thompson, 88, was born November 19, 1923, in Hobart, Oklahoma to Ferris and Irma Thompson. He passed from this life on Sunday, November 11, 2012, at the Glenhaven Retirement Village in Chickasha.
Howard was raised in Hobart and graduated from Anadarko High School in 1941. He then joined the U.S. Navy till the end of WW II. Upon his discharge from the Navy, Howard went to Oklahoma A&M receiving a bachelor's degree. He married the former Jewell Anderson on September 3, 1947. Howard and Jewel soon moved to Flagstaff, Arizona where he owned and operated a dry cleaners and laundry business. Later, they moved to Phoenix where he was in sales for several years. They moved back to Anadarko where he retired in 1980.
Howard was an avid golfer, loved to travel and was a good cook. He was also a friend of Bill W. where he helped many people as a sponsor.
Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife, Jewell and an infant granddaughter, Kamya.
Survivors include one daughter, Deborah and her significant other, Karen of Scottsdale, Arizona; one son. Thomas and his wife, Carol of Anadarko; four grandchildren, Tali and her husband, C.C. of Anadarko, Ombreia of Klamath Falls, Oregon, Tyler Mack Thompson of Anadarko, Joseph Elvis Thompson of Anadarko; four great grandchildren, Tarquin Thompson, Nadonis, Thompson, Aubrielle Thompson and Kyndee Thompson; two brothers, Robert Thompson of Marietta, Oklahoma and James Thompson of Perry, Oklahoma; several nieces and nephews.
A prayer service will be held at 7 P.M., Thursday, November 15, 2012, at the Steverson Funeral Home chapel. Funeral services are scheduled for 11 A.M., Friday, November 16, 2012, at the Bethel Baptist Church with Pastor Glen Alley officiating. Burial will follow in the Memory Lane Cemetery under the direction of the Steverson Funeral Home. Online condolences may be left at
