Helen Lois Peters was born August 18th, 1912 in Mondamon, OK to Franklin Pierce and Mary Caroline (Ore) Greer. She was raised, along with four sisters and three brothers, in the Rainy Mountain area of OK. As a young woman she went to Missouri and worked in a sewing factory. As her mother stated in a letter, "Lois, you'll never see another poor day working in that factory for 40 cents an hour." She later worked in Hobart, OK as a nurse in the Hobart Hospital. She also worked in people's homes taking care of their children. It was in this capacity that she met Aubrey Kenneth "Son" Peters taking care of his children, Keith and Greta. Son, age 35, and Lois, age 31, were married May 27, 1944 in Frederick, OK. She raised and loved Keith and Greta as her own children. In 1949, Son and Lois had a daughter, Brenda.
Lois helped Son in his business in Gotebo for about thirty years. After Son's death she made Hobart, OK her home, and in her "seventies", she worked in the home health field taking care of the "elderly". When her health failed she lived in Carnegie Nursing Home for three years, and after her stroke she lived with her daughter and son in law, Brenda and Wilson, for six years.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Ed Greer, Cecil Greer, and Lawrence "Woody" Greer, sister, Gladys Holmes, husband, "Son" Peters, grandson, Ken Rogers, son, Keith Peters, daughter, Greta Rogers, and son-in-law, Glen Rogers.
She is survived by her sisters, Bernice "Sis" Koch of Del City, OK, Hazel Fortune of Hobart, OK, and Betty Bunch of Nacogdoches, TX, her son-in-law and daughter, Wilson and Brenda Brown of Jones, OK, many nieces and nephews, and her dearly loved grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Brandon Barber and wife, Amy, and Breanna and Brittyn of Combine, TX; Brigett Gray and Payton and Payge Ashcraft of Combine, TX; Deana Hollowell and husband, Keith, and Lezlie, Brad, and Kallie of Cement, OK; Kim Williams and Christopher, Bodry, and Bronson of Chickasha, OK; Rodney Peters and Joshua and Tosha of Chickasha, OK. She also has two great great-grandchildren: Brad's Kyan and one on the way; and Tosha's Kinslee. Lois' family was her pride and joy. Wilson's children and grandchildren: Todd and Katrina Brown, Sam and Matthew; Gary and Terri Gardner, Dylan and Macy became a part of her family, too, and they treated her with much kindness. She also had a special family to whom a debt of gratitude is owed which can never really be repaid. That family is Jose and Julia Gamez, Ruben, Joe, and Max. They loved and helped care for Lois as if she were their own mother or grandmother and she loved them very much.
Lois was fun, wonderful, and loving mother and grandmother. She was always so witty, had a great sense of humor, and such a joy for life. She passed from this life on July 15th, 2012. She wanted so badly to walk again after her paralyzing stroke, and now we're blessed to know she'll be walking again in her heavenly life. She will be missed more than you can imagine.
