Helen Rowena Eckiwaudah, whose Kiowa name was Ah'td'aw-haoy mah ("War Bonnet Woman"), passed away on November 16, 2020 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Helen was born November 21, 1941 in Lawton, Oklahoma to Allie B. Topaum and Blossom (Mausape) Topaum.
Helen attended Carnegie Public School graduating with the Class of 1961. She attended Tulsa Business College in Tulsa, OK where she received several achievements. She was honored in Washington DC with a moment of silence & observance for her contributions to the Kiowa Language Program; keeping the Kiowa Language flourishing. She was a Cedar Dale Alumni. She was a member of the Kiowa Native American Church, Kiowa War Mothers, Kiowa Gourd Clan, Kiowa War Descendants, and National Congress of American Indians. She was a descendent of Tanedoah.
Helen enjoyed playing Bingo, teaching Kiowa language and Native American culture, sharing cultural upbringings, eating carne asada from El Charros, show dogs, and fried chicken at Georgia's.
