Hazle Marie Stockton

December 18, 1918 — November 23, 2013

Hazle Marie Stockton went to Heaven to be with Her Lord and Savior on Saturday, November 23, 2013 at the age of 94. She was born in Caddo County, Oklahoma on December 18, 1918 to parents John Howard Stuart and Effie Childers-Stuart.
She was raised in the Oney, OK vicinity and after graduation attended a business college in Anadarko. In the early stages of World War II, Hazle moved to Oklahoma City and took a job in the war effort with McDonald-Douglas Corporation at Tinker Field. Hazle married a young airman, Floyd Calvin Stockton, of Ft. Cobb, OK, on December 9, 1943. After the war, the couple pursued a career with the Army Air Corps, which later became the United States Air Force. Hazle dutifully became the consummate “officers wife†and willingly accepted all the transfers to new duty stations required to further his career. She participated in various Air Force activities and progressed throughout the families programs to achieve her place in the community. The Stockton's served in Air Force bases in Destin, FL, Dayton, OH, Biloxi, MS and Washington D.C. Hazle became quite adapt at independent living and self-sustainment since Floyd was an Air Force Command pilot and was often gone on overnight missions. One of Hazle's proudest memories was the day Floyd was promoted to full Colonel and assigned to the Pentagon.
After their retirement in 1968, the couple moved back to Anadarko, OK and became involved in the First Baptist Church and the local community. Hazle cared for her parents until their deaths and also served as a volunteer for the Caddo County Election Board. After Floyd's death in 1994, she became an active member of the First Baptist “Keenagers†and began to travel the world. She participated frequently with the group who made trips both locally and abroad. She remained active with them until she decided to move to Oklahoma City in 2006 to be closer to relatives. Hazle lived in an independent living community and an assisted living center for the past eight years.
She is preceded in death by her younger sister LaVerne and both parents.
She is survived by Sister in laws, Marcella Stockton of Ft. Cobb, Imogene Stockton of Pauls Valley, and Betty Ferguson-Garcia of Las Cruces, New Mexico, three nephews, Don & wife Donna Stockton of Oklahoma City, Robert & wife Debbie Stockton of Pauls Valley and Kevin & wife Debbie Ferguson of Alto, New Mexico, a niece, Cindy & husband Evan Flood of Lindsey and a host of cousins and grand nephews and nieces.
Hazle Marie was a unique and special person who was born and raised in Caddo County, traveled the world, and then returned to her roots to enhance the community with her experience, sneaky wit and astounding vocabulary. She always enjoyed flying back to Oklahoma to see family and friends especially when husband Floyd was the pilot. She was a patriot and fan of “Old Glory†and never missed the opportunity to comment when she observed a flag flying. Her housekeeping and organizational skills were legendary among her family. Her absence here is profound.
Funeral services will be held at the First Baptist Church, Anadarko, OK on Friday, November 29, 2013, at 1:00PM. Interment will follow at the Ft. Cobb Cemetery.
