Gwen Horsechief-Barrera was born September 2, 1983 in Lawton, Oklahoma to the late Dena Horsechief and Miguel Escamilla Contreras of Juarez, Chichuahua, Mexico. She departed this earth on Sunday, May 7th 2023 in Oklahoma City with family by her side. Gwen was raised and attended school in Gracemont, Oklahoma before moving to Anadarko with her mother and siblings. Gwen worked in the restaurant business as a cook before her health began to take a toll on her body. She loved to be around her family, friends, and co-workers. Gwen was always joking with everyone and made sure to put a smile on every person's face that she had contact with. Gwen was a member of the Wichita and Affiliated Tribes, also a descendent of the Pawnee Nation and Kiowa Tribe of Oklahoma. Gwen was proud of who she was and where she came from. She gave her life to the Lord and enjoyed going to church and told her sister that she wanted to start singing gospel songs. Gwen loved her children dearly especially her grandson who was named after her brother Michael John. She also enjoyed riding around, talking on messenger sending voice messages to everyone. Most of all she enjoyed cracking up and terrorizing.
