Gwelda Agatha (Chambless) Coon, 92, of Mountain View, OK passed away Saturday, December 15th, 2012 at the Carnegie Hospital after a brief illness. She was born September 23rd, 1920 to Jack and Stella (Strader) Chambless on the family farm North of Mountain View in Washita County. She attended and graduated from Mountain View School. She was united in marriage to Roy coon, June 26, 1940 in Mountain View, OK who preceded her in death December 7, 1980. To this union was born one son, Edgar Max Coon on March 29, 1943. Gwelda worked alongside her husband in the cotton office, buying cotton and keeping accurate records. She loved to cross-stitch, crochet and quilt. She was an avid collector of dolls, Precious Moments, thimbles, and Hallmark Christmas ornaments. Gwelda was an excellent cook. Her family especially loved her homemade pies, Christmas candy, made from scratch Angel food cake, and her famous macaroni and cheese. She was meticulous about all family records, never letting a birthday, anniversary or special occasion go by without sending a thoughtful card. She also traveled extensively visiting every state in the United States as well as Europe, Canada and Mexico. Her Saturday nights were spent with her closest friends having dinner out, and playing chicken foot. Gwelda was a member of the First Baptist Church in Mountain View, and also an active member of Mary Martha Sunday School Class and WMU. She especially enjoyed keeping the records for the Jr. Department Sunday School Class. There she made lasting impressions on many students. Her most joyous times were spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren loving each one of them dearly.
