Goldie Sage

September 24, 1922 — February 9, 2017

Goldie Mae (Edmonds) Sage was born the daughter of Taylor (Bill) and Bertha (Few) Edmonds on September 24, 1922 in Gracemont, Oklahoma. She passed away on February 9, 2017 at the Oklahoma Heart Hospital in Oklahoma City.

Goldie lived in the Gracemont area her entire life. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother; great and great-great grandmother. Family was always the most important thing in her life. She loved family gatherings and was so proud of the accomplishments her family achieved.

She and her husband Burley Sage raised 6 children on their farm east of Gracemont. She was a hard worker, meticulous housekeeper and loved to cook. She made her family Sunday dinner for many years and her children will always remember her wonderful pinto beans, fried potatoes, corn bread and potato salad. Nothing ever tasted better in the cotton field at noon than her potato sandwiches and homemade cake with her special cooked icing.

She was an excellent seamstress making dresses and shirts using the flour material sacks for her children. Education was very important to her; she always made sure her children went to school every day and always encouraged them to further their education. She enjoyed playing cards (pitch) with her family and was always seriously competitive.

Weekly trips to town for groceries on Saturday and in the early days to sell cream and eggs were considered a priority even if it required taking a bale of cotton to the cotton gin with 6 kids in the back of the truck with the cotton. What fun days we had!!!!

Goldie was a respected member of the Gracemont community; she was the 2nd oldest member of the Caddo Nation. She also enjoyed attending church at the Gracemont Assembly of God Church.

Goldie married the love of her life Burley Sage in Anadarko, Oklahoma on August 18, 1942 shortly before his deployment in World War 11 to Germany. She was preceded in death by her husband, son Alton, her parents, sister Donice Cleo Lasley and brothers Alton and Donald Edmonds.

Survivors include her children; Fern Hardy, Gracemont; Marilyn McDonald, Gracemont; Ronald Sage and his wife Cheryll, Anadarko; Gayle Dyer and her husband Michael, Anadarko, Janice Burris and her husband Clifton, Cedar park Texas; daughter-in-law Kaye Sage, Bethany Oklahoma. one sister: Anita Smith & husband Sonny of Paloalto, California.
