George Albert Weisser of Mountain View, OK passed away December 13th, 2010 at the Carnegie Hospital. He was three months shy of his 100th birthday. George was born in Valencia, KS on March 11th, 1911 to Martin Frank (Bud) Weisser and Bertha Ruth Jones. They moved to Oklahoma and George grew up on a farm five miles northeast of their current farm home. George attended the Silver Moon grade school that is currently a storage barn on the current farm. George attended Carnegie High School and got an engineering degree from the University of Oklahoma in Norman, OK. He went to work at the Bureau of Public Roads as a civil engineer in Fort Worth, TX, where he met his future wife, Violet Elizabeth (Betty) Barnett. They married on October 16, 1938. George entered the military just prior to WW II and trained in artillery at Fort Sill. After a period in an artillery Unit in the South Pacific (New Caledonia), he transferred to the Signal Corps and sent and received coded messages for the South Pacific Command Center. He continued his military career in the U.S. Army Reserve and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. During the war, Betty worked as secretary to Dr. Warren Johnston at the First Methodist Church, Fort Worth. After the war George and Betty started a family in 1947 with the birth of their oldest son Frank, who currently lives in Houston. Their second son Carl was born in 1950, and he has resided with George since 2003 at the farm. In 1972 George continued to work for the Bureau and retired in 1972 after 37 years. They moved to the farm where they built a new house and joined the First United Methodist Church of Mountain View, OK. George did not retire from farming until he was about 85 years old, and continued to have his finger in the farm operations almost up to his death on Monday.
George was preceded in death by his wife, Betty in 2004 and his brother, Bert in 2007.
George is survived by his son Carl, his son Frank and wife, Teresita, his grandchildren, Lee Weisser-Greenbaum of Boston, and Ross Weisser and wife Brittany, and great-grandchildren Victoria and Andrew, all of Houston.
