George Oheltoint

April 20, 1947 — January 28, 2018

George Andrew Oheltoint was born on April 20, 1947 to Pearl (Tanedooah) and Barney Lewis Oheltoint Sr. at the Kiowa Indian Hospital in Lawton, Oklahoma and departed this life on Sunday, January 28, 2018 at the Chickasha Nursing Home at the age of 70 years, 9 months and 8 days.
George attended school at Cedar Dale in Carnegie, St. Patricks Indian Mission until the closing of the school, then Anadarko High School. He worked at Indian City at the age of 15 years old as a War Dancer and Hoop Dancer. He attended the Indian Action Training in Apache, where he became an Apprentice Painter, which was his trade most of his life. He later worked for Sequoyah Carpet Mill, later known as Hollytex up until the company closed. Soon after that he went on and took his CLEET Training and became a certified security guard for the Silver Buffalo Casino up until his retirement in 2010.
George was one of the first founders of the Reservation War Dancers, along with Truman Ware, Bill Ware, Wimpy Edmonds, Amos Pewenofkit, Dusty Miller and Virgil Swift. He was a member of the Kiowa O-Ho-Mah Lodge. George was a direct descendant of Kiowa War Chief Dohauson II, aka Done-pi.
George was never married nor had any children of his own, but his brothers and sisters children and grandchildren he said were his own. He always did for them and never called them by their given names. He gave each one of them their own nicknames, which he always called them by.
George is survived by the following: one sister and brother-in-law, Bridgette and Reuben Prentiss Jr and three brothers and their spouses, Barney and Frances Oheltoint Jr., Rudy and Barbara Oheltoint Sr, all of Anadarko and Preston Oheltoint of Norman, Oklahoma.
Traditional sisters: Marci Davilla, Loretta McCarthy, Kathryn (Ware) Perosi, Vivian Ware Jr., Audrey Palmer Fowler and Phyllis Palmer Tartsah.
Traditional brothers: Andrew and Susan Ware, Wesley Ware Jr., of Anadarko, Henry and Leah Ware of Shawnee, Randall and Susan Ware of Ft. Cobb, Darwin Palmer of Carnegie, Lyndreth (Tugger) Palmer of Lawton, Gus and Carolyn Palmer JR. of Norman, Ok.
Nieces: Kathryn and Dawn Headrick both of Carnegie, OK. CeCe Tsatoke of Ft. Cobb, OK, Laura Oheltoint of Anadarko, OK, Kelly and Mike Meeks of Hinton, OK, Debbie (Bird) and Brandon Williams of Anadarko, OK, Mary Narcomey of Anadarko, OK, Valarie Prentiss, Teresa Prentiss, Glenda Prentiss and Cheyenne Prentiss and companion, Daryl Galindo, all of Anadarko, OK.
Nephews: David Oheltoint and companion, Jenna, of the home. Rudy Oheltoint Jr. of Anadarko, Frank Oheltoint of Cyril, Phillip and Ladonna Narcomey, Sr. and Ellery Headrick all of OKC, Michael Narcomey of Elgin, and Kenneth and Ida Parton of Stecker, OK.

George was preceded in death by his parents

Paternal Great-Grandparents: Alice (E-one-ty) and (Charley Buffalo) O-hel-toint
Three Sisters: Lena Mae (Oheltoint) Headrick, Brenda Teresa (Oheltoint) Narcomey and Cathyrn Oheltoint.
One brother: Creighton Oheltoint
Three Nephews: Burleigh Duane Headrick, Creighton Headrick and William Henry Oliver Oheltoint
One Niece: Monica Rae Prentiss

Prayer Services will be at the Christ Our Savior Church, Wednesday evening, January 31, 2018 at 7pm and Funeral Services will be Thursday, February 1, 2018 at 2pm at the Christ Our Savior Church. Officiating both services will be Andrew "Sonny" Ware. Burial will be at the Oheltoint Family Cemetery located on the old home place at the Apache Wye.
