George Silvers Dixon, 85, of Amarillo, Texas, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on May 15, 2024, in Sugar Land, Texas. He was born on September 8, 1938, to Emil Theodore and Esther Mary (Sawyer) Dixon in Enid, Oklahoma. George grew up and attended school in Nash, graduating from Nash High School in 1956. He served in the US Army at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, from 1956 - 1959 as a teletyper and paratrooper. He married the love of his life, Betty Sheets, on February 14, 1960, in Hobart, Oklahoma. George spent his working life in production in the Oil & Gas Industry.
George took pride in doing a job "the right way", spending time with family and friends, traveling, and helping others out. He even took pride in retiring not once but twice. After his second retirement, he worked even harder restoring the family farm in Oklahoma, which today features rolling grassy hills, several ponds, fewer mesquite trees and Bermuda grass for hay. (He was very proud of that Bermuda grass and could provide lots of detailed information about Midland 99!) Those that knew him well will recall his humble demeanor, sometimes inappropriate jokes, and numerous funny one liners. The one he used most often when telling someone good bye was "don't take any wooden nickels".
He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
