Gene Laverne Watkins was born on August 29, 1944 to John Owings and Faye Miller in Lawton, OK. He went to be with the Lord on September 17th, 2018.
In 1964 he enlisted into the United States Navy and in the same year was sent to Great Lakes, IL for basic training. Three months later he was sent to Alaska to board the USS Bonn Homme Richard. From there he was deployed to Vietnam. He was honorably discharged in 1968 after four years.
On December 21, 1969 he married Maxine Gouge with whom he was married to until his passing.
From 1968 to 1971 he was a successful outside salesman for Norman S. Wright Company selling industrial supplies. After that from 1971 to 1974 he attended college full time to Central State University where he obtained a BS. Following graduating college he was employed by WCD Enterprises from 1974 to 1983 as Business Development Specialist and then was promoted to Executive Director. After his time there he was hired in October of 1983 by Indian Westernwear Inc. as General Manager. In 1985 he became the owner of the Chickasha Tax Service which he co-owned with his wife.

Jeff Watkins of Anadarko, Oklahoma
Lots of nieces and nephews.
He is proceeded in death by his parents John and Faye Owings brother Tony Owings, and sister Jan Blackburn.
His service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, September 20, 2018 at Rocks Spring Baptist Church located 4 mi North of Anadarko on Hwy 281, 1/4 mi East with Pastor J.C. Smith officiating. His internment will be at Rock Spring Cemetery.
His services are under the direction of Ray & Martha's Funeral Home of Anadarko, OK.
