Gene Sawyer, 90, of Carnegie, passed away April 23, 2012 at his residence. He was born to A.O. and Ethel (Miller) Sawyer, April 18th, 1922 in Fort Cobb, OK. Gene attended Fort Cobb school and graduated in 1938. He also attended school at Oklahoma State University where he received his degree in Agriculture. After serving in the United States Navy, he returned to Carnegie where he taught a Veterans Agriculture class at Carnegie High School. He met and married the love of his life, Dorothy Bess Rodrick and they were married November 29, 1947 in Carnegie, OK. From this union had three children. Gene served on local conservation boards. He served as the state president of OACD and was on the Carnegie Rural Water board from its very beginning. Gene was a member of the United Methodist Church, Carnegie, OK.
