Floyd Allen Mace, age 77, entered the gates of heaven on July 22nd, 2024, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He was born in Oklahoma City on January 15, 1947, to John Allen "Johnnie" and Viola (Parker) Mace. Floyd was raised on the family farm in Green Valley where roots run deep and fertile soil leaves legacies. Floyd attended and graduated from Cooperton High School in 1964. Shortly after, on May 22, he married his high school sweetheart, Gwendolyn LaRae Miller in Vernon, Texas. The couple resided in Lawton, Oklahoma while Floyd attended Cameron State Agriculture College where he received an associate in arts degree in agriculture. Floyd and Gwen then settled down and made their home in the Green Valley community, one mile from where he was raised. Partnering with his father, he became a third-generation farmer and rancher for JMF (Johnnie Mace and Floyd) Farms, which eventually became only FM Farms. During this time, Floyd and Gwen raised three beautiful children, born of the name synonymous with farming, where they worked the farm and grew the generational legacy.
Floyd's business consisted of raising wheat, cotton, and hay, as well as a cow/calf cattle operation. While he diversified to maintain the farm, his true passion was raising cotton. He was the epitome of a true-blue cotton farmer. Back in the day, he was known to have the straightest cotton rows in the county, long before the use of technology and the convenience of Auto-Trac. During his lifetime, he saw many challenges, trials and tribulations while turning the soil and praying God's blessing for rain and Mother Nature's cooperation. He remained steadfast in his duties to the land, as he worked tirelessly to tend the farm, never succumbing to the challenges. Floyd always said he wanted to achieve the goals of being able to sell dollar a pound cotton and produce 100,000 bushels of wheat in a season - and he did just that.
Floyd devoted more than 60 years to farming this land, even being named one time as the Soil Conservation Farmer of the year. In addition to farming, he found satisfaction in helping to serve his community. He was a member of the Saddle Mountain Volunteer Fire Department, and he served on the Mountain View Soil Conservation Board. Alongside his wife, he served as one of the class parents for the Mountain View / Mountain View-Gotebo Class of 1990 and 1998. Floyd attended the Primitive Baptist Church in Mountain View.
Floyd was not only an avid farmer, but a devout Boston Terrier lover. He loved all his animals throughout life, but especially his last rescue, Dallas Ray. This devoted husband, loving father, ornery granddad, and generous friend, will truly be missed by those who knew him.
