Etta Laverne Kirby

August 12, 1936 — July 24, 2019

Etta Laverne McMillon Kirby passed away July 24, 2019 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She was born on August 12, 1936 in Greenville, Texas to Robert Leonard and Effie Odessa (English) McMillon. She attended high school in Greenville, Texas, where she was Band Queen. She continued her education and received her Bachelor's Degree in Education from East Central Oklahoma University, and later her Master's Degree in Education. Once she received her Teacher Certification from ECU, she went on to be a teacher/principal for 22 years, before retiring in 1995 due to her declining health. She served at Elmore City and Verden, as well as a member of Anadarko's Board of Education after she retired in order to "stay involved". Laverne loved her flower beds and sending kind words of encouragement to those that needed it. She loved her Sunday School Class dearly. She also loved OU Football and often would travel thousands of miles just to watch them play. Whenever the Sooners lost, Laverne would say that Bob Stoops still owed her for some of those trips. Thankfully that wasn't often. Laverne loved her fur babies: Duke, Dutchess, and Kash. Laverne loved her grandchildren most of all.

She is preceded in death by her parents, sister RueNell Haralson, and brother Fred McMillon.

She is survived by her husband Dale Kirby of Anadarko, Oklahoma,
