Marvin Tacker

January 13, 1954 — March 3, 2023

Ernest Marvin Tacker, Jr. Was born to Marvin Tacker, Sr, and Lois Eskew Tacker on January 13, 1954, in Sentinel, Oklahoma. A 1972 graduate of Gotebo High School, he excelled at baseball, and was president of the FFA and senior class. He developed a successful hog enterprise, and he enjoyed showing his hogs at livestock shows. His free time was spent working for area farmers and hauling hay. After graduation, he worked for several contractors, learning building and home construction, and becoming an accomplished carpenter.

He married Mary Cheryl Jones on May 15, 1976, and they began their married life on her family's farm south of Cowden. Marvin loved the little community, and was always willing to help in any way he could to make Cowden a better place. He was a farmer by trade, and raised cattle, wheat, cotton and alfalfa.

Two children were born into the family: A son, Travis Lee, and a daughter, Jill Marie. As the children grew, Marvin strove to teach them a strong work ethic and good character, just as he had been taught. He emphasized hard work and being a man of his word. Patience, kindness and honesty were his trademarks, and his word was his bond. He believed in treating others as he desired to be treated.

He enjoyed serving his community, and over the years, he served on the board of directors of the Farmer's Coop Elevator, the Mountain View Gotebo Ambulance, the Cowden Gin and the Sappington Chapel Cemetery Association. He served as president of the Cowden Community Center for over 40 years. Marvin and Mary Cheryl were long-time members of the Weatherford Church of Christ.

Marvin's pride and joy were his children and grandchildren. From ball games to stock shows, both in state and out of state, Marvin and Mary Cheryl were always ready to help, and cheer for their kids and teammates. As grandchildren grew and participated in athletic events and stock shows of their own, Marvin was always there. Always ready to pitch in when needed. Always ready to give a pat on the back and a hug, or even a do-better talk. His grandchildren were his heroes, and he was theirs.

Marvin is survived by his wife of 46 years, Mary Cheryl. Children: Travis Tacker of Hobart, and Jill Carter and husband BJ of Hydro. Grandchildren: Berick Carter, Polly Tacker, Logan Tacker, Luke Tacker, Maggie Tacker and Collin Carter. In-laws LeRoy and Sandra Jones, and a very special Aunt, Lois Eskew of Penalosa, KS.

Preceding him in death were his mother, Lois Eskew Tacker, his father, Marvin Tacker Sr., and his brother Frank Tacker. Grandparents EM and Maudie Tacker, Arvil and Mary Eskew. Aunt Iris and Uncle Gloyd Huckabee, and Uncle Lee Eskew.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to the Tipton Home, Mountain View Volunteer Fire Department, the Cloud Chief Volunteer Fire Department or the Cowden Community Center.
