Elmer Earl Gibson

April 12, 1928 — January 11, 2014

Elmer Earl "Hoot" Gibson, Oklahoma City and a former Carnegie resident, passed away at his home on Saturday, January 11th, 2014. He was born on April 12, 1928, to Elmer Gibson and Linnie (Simer) Gibson in Tuttle, OK. At the age of two, his family moved to a farm north of Mountain View in Washita County. Earl was known as "Hoot" to family and friends. The nickname was given to him by his uncle when he was a baby and it stuck. He started school at Cottonwood, a country school with 8 grades. He began high school at Mountain View until they moved to Cowden where he graduated in 1946. During the war, all men were serving their country so Hoot was given the privilege of driving the one school bus for his high school years until he graduated.

Hoot settle in Oklahoma City where he worked for Wilson Meat Packing. He served as delivery driver, mechanic and as a security officer till his retirement in 1985 after 40 years of service. Hoot was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.

He is survived by his wife Bobbie, of the home
one son, Ronnie of Alabama
daughter, Wanda Higa, Tuttle, OK
stepdaughter, Debbie Johnson and husband Larry, Carnegie, OK
three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren and a host of other family.
He has a special cousin, Alma Lee Johnson of Tuttle.
Liz Garner and Michelle Powell are special friends of the family along with Kaleb Powell who
adopted Hoot as his honorary Grandpa.

Spending time fishing on his properties at Lakes Texoma and Eufaula was a favorite pastime, along with shopping garage sales, where he like to buy lawn mowers to repair. Many treasures were given away to friends as all would agree Hoot was always very generous with whatever he had to share.

Hoot was a member of the Brookwood Baptist Church and also a 50 year member of the Myrtle Masonic Lodge #145 of the Scottish Rite at the 32nd degree.

Graveside Service: 3:00p.m., Tuesday at the Carnegie Cemetery, Carnegie, OK
under the direction of Ray & Martha's Funeral Home, Carnegie
