Elizabeth Jean Hawkins

March 14, 1928 — January 11, 2018

Elizabeth "Jean" Hawkins, 89, a lifelong resident of Mangum, OK, passed away in her home January 11, 2018. Jean was born March 14, 1928 in Mangum to Carl and Faye Anglin. She graduated from Mangum High School in 1946. After Graduation she attended school in Springfield, Missouri to become an operator for Western Union. She later joined Southwestern Bell Telephone Company.
Jean married Clay Hawkins in 1949. They had a wonderful marriage for 47 years until his death in 1995. In 1937, at age 9, Jean was baptized and joined the First Baptist Church in Mangum. She was proud to have been a member for over 80 years. As a member, she served in many capacities. She was a Sunday School teacher and worked many years with Bible School. She especially enjoyed serving as GA teacher for several years and as the Preschool Coordinator for 20 years.
Jean loved the game of golf. She was an avid golfer and played in many tournaments in Oklahoma and Texas. She served as President of the Southwestern Oklahoma Women's Golf Association (SWOGA) for several years. She also organized the Monday night mixed scrambles at the Mangum Golf Course. Jean also enjoyed bridge and participated in and hosted many bridge clubs throughout her life.
Jean had many lifelong Mangum friends. She was a proud Mangum Alumni (class of 1946) and was active in the Mangum Alumni reunions for many years.
She was a beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, sister and friend. She will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents Carl and Faye Anglin, her husband Clay Hawkins and her infant sister Joela Anglin.

Her daughter: Signe Heatly and Husband Ralph of Edmond, OK.
Her son: Kevin Hawkins and wife Doe of Granite, OK.

Three granddaughters: Jill Moery of Hennessey, OK
Karly Banker of Mangum, OK
Erin Heatly of Oklahoma City, OK
One grandson: Bradley Hawkins of Angel Fire, NM

Six great grandchildren: Clay, Maggie and Noah Moery of Hennessy, Ok.
Alyson Gifford, Alex Hawkins and Taylor Banker of Mangum, OK

Three Brothers: H.C. Anglin of Midwest City, Ok.
Ben Anglin of Las Vegas, NV.
Richard Anglin of Oklahoma City, OK.

And many Nieces and Nephews.


Services will be held Monday, Jan 15, 2018 at 2:00pm at the First Baptist Church in Mangum with Pastor Casey Paxton and Pam Schomer in attendance. In lieu of flowers family asks that donations be made to the First Baptist Church of Mangum or The Mangum Alumni Association Scholarship Fund, 414 S. Robinson, Mangum, OK 73554.
