Dorothy Irene (Young) Hopkins, 90, of Sentinel, passed away on Saturday, November 14, 2015 in Corn, OK.
Irene was born January 10, 1925 in Elk City, OK to Alonzo and Dora (Ramsey) Young. She was the youngest of 6 children. She grew up and attended school in Elk City. Irene and her sister, Mildred, were extremely close and even married brothers. Irene married the love of her life, Louis (Mike) Hopkins on April 4, 1942 in Altus, OK. To this union, three daughters were born (Patsy, Linda, and Gayle). Irene was the definition of a "homemaker". She was an amazing artist, self-taught seamstress, and overall craft guru. Irene was able to create clothes without any patterns. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, ceramics and even turned her hobbies into a business when she opened a gift shop in Sentinel with her friend, Betty Sharp. She was a Christian wife and mother, who also made sure that her husband and children came first, ensuring that her family had 3 homemade meals every day and that all of their needs were met. Irene was a member of the 11th St Church of Christ in Sentinel, OK.
She was proceeded in death by her parents, her husband, three brothers (Orphus Young, Harlan Young and Herman Young), two sisters (Delma Young and Mildred Hopkins), and one son-in-law, Tom Everett.
She is survived by her three loving daughters, Patsy Everett of Sentinel, OK; Linda Harris and husband Dean of Tuttle, OK; Gayle Hanson and husband Phil of Newcastle, OK, 7 grandchildren, Druanne Hinojosa and husband Robert of Altus, OK; Greg Harris and wife Deanna of Overland Park, KS; Todd Harris and wife Amy of Tuttle, OK; Scott Everett and wife Jamie of Sentinel, OK; Mikel, Steve and Heather Hanson of Newcastle, OK; 9 great-grandchildren, 8 great-great grandchildren as well as numerous other family and friends.
Services will be Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at 2:00pm at 11th St Church of Christ in Sentinel, OK, under the direction of Ray & Martha's Funeral Home, Hobart.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be sent Sentinel Fire Department and/or the Sentinel Veterans Memorial fund at the Sentinel All America Bank.
