OBITUARY
Doris Ellen Steverson, 85, formerly of Anadarko, was born December 3, 1927, on the Casper Callis Indian Lease, three and a half miles southeast of Cyril to William Roy and Sarah “Linnie†(Wright) LaMar. She passed from this life on Monday, May 13, 2013, in Yukon.
In 1936, the family moved northeast of Anadarko when Doris was in the third grade. She attended Shamrock School, district 166, through the eighth grade. Doris then entered Anadarko Public Schools and graduated with the Class of 1946 as co-salutatorian. At the age of 16, she worked at the Davis 10cent Store after school hours and during the summer. Doris later worked at the G.O. Funk Supply Company and after graduation, she worked for the Anadarko Daily News where she remained for seven years. On November 20, 1948, Doris married Clarence Earl Steverson in Anadarko who preceded her in death on June 1, 1964. They adopted one son, Philip Earl, born April 17, 1958. She later became Postmaster of the United States Post Office in Fort Cobb until retiring in the late 1980's and moving to Yukon. Doris was a member of the Anadarko First Church of the Nazarene and led the singing for many years. After moving to Yukon, she joined the Yukon First Church of the Nazarene and was Sunday School Secretary for a while.
Others preceding her in death were her parents, two brothers, Elzie and Walter; two sisters, Joyce and Ola Mae.
Survivors include her son, Philip Steverson and his wife, Pam of Yukon; three granddaughters, Tasha Bouteller and her husband, Jeremy of Mustang, Kendall Schreiber and her husband, James of Edmond and Rachael Rayburn and her husband, Kyle of Mustang; two great granddaughters, Kylie Grace and Bryce, both of Mustang; one sister, Rose Patterson of Arlington, Texas; one brother, Otho LaMar of Bray; numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives and precious friends.
Due to reconstruction work at the Anadarko First Church of the Nazarene, the funeral will be held at the First Assembly of God Church in Anadarko at 2 P.M., Friday, May 17, 2013, with pastors Larry Steverson and Kent Mullins officiating. Burial will follow in the Memory Lane Cemetery.
