OBITUARY
Donice Lea Monroe, 82, of Blanchard, formerly of Anadarko, was born January 30, 1931, to Donald H. and Letha May (Morrison) Jacks in Fort Cobb. She passed from this life on Wednesday, June 5, 2013, in Norman.
Donice grew up in Cushing, Oklahoma. When she was a teen, she moved with her family to Anadarko where she met and married her husband of 63 years, Olen Monroe. To this union five children were born. The family lived in seven states before settling in Anadarko. Donice was a stay at home mom until the last child was in school. She worked as a clerk at Coast to Coast, Humpty Dumpty, and Jenkins Home Furniture. The Monroes had lived in Chickasha for eight years and had most recently lived in Blanchard for four years and were members of The Pleasant Hill Baptist Church there.
Mrs. Monroe loved to dance, going to garage sales and antiquing, camping, collecting Barbie dolls, sewing and cooking. Her greatest love was her grandchildren and watching them play sports.
Preceding her in death were her parents, a brother, Gary Lynch, a sister, Betty Simma and a granddaughter, Kara Lea Griffith.
Survivors include four children, Don E. “Opie†Monroe, John Monroe and his wife, Liz, both of Norman, Nancy Griffith and her husband, Kris of Blanchard, Sheri Miller of Verden and Ann Roark and her husband, Kevin of Blanchard; eleven grandchildren, James Monroe, Kristin Griffith, both of Norman, Kyle Griffith and his wife, Sarah of Edmond, Kreg Griffith and his wife, Libby of Washington, Oklahoma, Kim Griffith and her fiancé, Joseph Whyatt of Norman, Shon Downes of Chickasha, Shane Downes and his wife, Jennifer of Verden, Alicia Rogers and her husband, Nick of Waxahachie, Texas, Todd Roark of Oklahoma City, Jairus Roark and his wife, Jamie of Edmond, David Roark and his wife, Taylor of Garland, Texas; seven great grandchildren, Sheldon Downes of Walters, Terra Downes, Tyler Downes, both of Verden, Anna Rogers, Nash Rogers, both of Waxahachie, Kyan Griffith of Washington, and Caroline Griffith of Edmond; other relatives and friends.
The funeral will be held at 2 PM, Saturday, June 8, 2013 at the First Baptist Church in Anadarko with Nick Rogers and Randy Presley officiating. Burial will follow in the Memory Lane Cemetery.
