Dirk Newell Webb was born on December 4, 1955, to Newell and Wanda Webb in Elk City, Oklahoma. He grew up on the farm and graduated from Elk City High School in 1974. While in high school, Dirk played basketball and was active in FFA. Dirk served as a state FFA officer, was a National FFA Proficiency Winner in Swine, and Western Regional Star Farmer.
Dirk graduated from Oklahoma State University in 1978 with a degree in agricultural education. While at OSU, he was a member of the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity, served as Ag Council President, and was a Top Five Graduate in the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources. Dirk's greatest achievement in college, however, was meeting the love of his life, Jana.
Dirk taught vocational agriculture from 1978-79 at Cashion High School in Cashion, Oklahoma. He began his career with OSU Extension as an ag agent and county director on July 1, 1979, in Roger Mills County. Two weeks later, he married Jana Cook on July 14, 1979.
Dirk served the citizens, farmers, and ranchers of western Oklahoma as an OSU Extension agent for 31 years before he retired in 2010. During that time, Dirk earned his master's degree from Oklahoma State, and he and Jana also welcomed two children: Shannon and Sheldon. Dirk became the ag agent and county director in Washita County in 1990. While in Extension, Dirk was recognized by the Oklahoma County Agents Association as Outstanding Agent with less than 10 years of Service and was a Distinguished Service Award winner. Dirk also served as state OCAA President and served on the National County Agent Board.
Dirk was very proud of his career in OSU Extension, but he would be the first to tell you that his greatest accomplishment was his family. His favorite roles were Daddy, Apa, and being Jana's guy.
At the time of his passing, Dirk served as Worshipful Master of the Cordell Masonic Lodge #127 and was an active, faithful member and Chairman of the Administrative Board of the Cordell First United Methodist Church.
Dirk is survived by his wife, Jana; children Shannon and Sheldon; grandsons, Jaxon and Jager; one sister, Gail, and her family; and a host of family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials for Dirk may be made to the Cordell Masonic Lodge #127, 219 S. Glenn English, Cordell, OK 73632.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 29, at 10 am at the Cordell First United Methodist Church. Burial will be at the Cloud Chief Cemetery.
