Devered "Dee" Hines, 80, of Cordell, Oklahoma passed away unexpectedly on July 10th, 2021, at Lake Texoma doing what he loved most. Dee was born on October 15th, 1940 to Clifford "Skip" and Nannie (Foster) Hines on the family homestead in Lake Valley, OK. Dee attended Cordell High School graduating in 1959. Shortly afterward, he met the love of his life, Mary Ann Miller from Rocky, OK. They were united in marriage on October 25, 1959, when Mary Ann turned 18. They made their home in Cordell, where Dee worked for Cordell Welding. Dee and Mary Ann started their family in 1962, when Steven Dee was born and expanded it in 1968, when Scott Duane was born. The Hines family enjoyed camping, fishing, and skiing at local lakes, Dee teaching his sons a love of the water. Dee was an accomplished quail hunter, raised sought after bird dogs, and became a prominent field trial judge in multiple states.
After working for others for several years, Dee opened his own business in Cordell, Dee's Welding and Mufflers. Through all this time, Dee's passion for fishing remained constant. He knew all the best spots, and the right bait/lures for any occasion, and was very involved with the Cordell fishing Club. There was nothing Dee couldn't fix. His tinkering combined with a fishing obsession led to making slabs, and his second company, Sooner Slabs. His slab business grew for around 40 years. As if all that weren't enough, Dee began farming and operated a successful hay farming operation.
Dee retired from farming, sold his welding shop, and returned to his true passion-fishing. Dee spent thousands of hours in his Falcon boat on Fort Cobb, Texoma, Foss Lake and many others. So many family and friends, brothers, Gene, and Eddie, sons Steve and Scott, fishing buddies who Dee lost along the way, grandkids that learned the art of slabbing from the master. All the fish stories and fish tales are filled with laughter and joy from time spent together on the water. Papa Dee's lap was a favorite spot for all 6 grandkids, and 5 great-grandkids. Dee considered those 11 the smartest, prettiest, and best athletes in the world.
