Funeral services for Dennis Joe Skinner will be held Monday, March 18th at 2:00 PM at the First Baptist Church in Carnegie, Oklahoma under the direction of Ray and Martha's Funeral Home. Rev. Arthur Blount will officiate. Burial will be at the Carnegie Cemetery.
Dennis passed away Thursday, March 14th, at his home. He was born March 24, 1944, to Melvin and Lenora (Schmidt) Skinner. He grew up in Carnegie and Mt. View graduating from Carnegie High School in 1963 where he excelled in football. Dennis played in the first Oil Bowl in Childress, Texas, where the football players from Oklahoma played against the best players from Texas. He also went on to play football at Southwestern Oklahoma State University starting all four years on the offensive line. He was named as a Little All-American and made the Green Bay Packers draft list.
He married Dena Graham and two daughters were born to this union Jana Kay and Julie Lyn. Dennis coached football in Clinton, Ok and Carnegie. He was a custom harvester for many years and cherished the memories he made traveling north to Montana. On March 21, 1985, he married Sandy Steckman, and raised a daughter, Shandell Lyn. He was later self-employed in the farm equipment business. No matter his occupation, Dennis always enjoyed interacting with people from all walks of life. He loved to spend his time playing in golf tournaments, fishing or hunting, and playing cards. Dennis was a member of the First Baptist Church and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Dennis was preceded in death by his wife Sandy, his parents and brothers, Arden, Jerry, and Gaylon, and one son-in-law Jeremy Brannon.
He is survived by his daughters, Jana Brannon of Edmond, Julie Jackson and husband Sammy of Cashion, and Shandell Sears of Austin, Texas. Grandchildren Tanner Jackson, Kaden Jackson, Jillian Brannon, Haley Harrison, Sydney Sears, Stone Sears, and one great-grandchild Brayden Harrison.
