Dennis Merle Binghom

Dennis Merle Binghom, 82, Hobart, Oklahoma, passed away on Friday, September 22, 2017. He was born on September 19, 1935, to Tommie and Myrtle (Brown) Binghom in Hobart, Oklahoma. He graduated from Gotebo High school in 1953 and attended school at Oklahoma State University and Southwestern Oklahoma State University.

Dennis married Linda Marie Tull on April 17, 1957, in Hobart, Oklahoma. In 1943, Tommie established Binghom Dozer Service. Dennis joined his father and worked as an operator until he took over the business as owner years later. Dennis was a lifelong farmer and cattleman in Kiowa County. He also served as Kiowa County Election Board Secretary for many years. He received citations from The Oklahoma Governor, the Senate, and the House of Representatives for his outstanding services for Kiowa County. He served on the excise and equalization board since 2002, a position his father Tommie Binghom held from 1980 to 1990. Tim Binghom, son of Dennis, is serving as Kiowa County Commissioner and is the third generation public servant in the family.

Dennis was very active in the Democratic Party serving as Kiowa County Chairman for years. During these years he was instrumental in creating the Young Democrats of Kiowa County. He was involved in local and state politics throughout his life. Dennis served on the board of Farm Bureau Insurance. He also served as an ambassador for the Chamber of Commerce. Dennis served as state president of Land improvement contractors of Oklahoma.

He taught a Sunday School Class for several years at the First Baptist Church.

Dennis was always known as quite the gentleman. He had a love for his wife that was truly unconditional. Dennis was continually there for his family and was at all times a supportive husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was known as "Poppie" to not only his grandkids but to many of their friends. Dennis always had a smile on his face and never met a stranger.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his best friend and wife Linda of the home,

Rachel Johnston and husband Jason, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma,
Bryne Binghom and wife Dacia, Sentinel, Oklahoma,
Jamie Binghom and fiance Jake Rose, Hobart, Oklahoma,

Six Great grandchildren: Jaedyn Williams, Jordyn Williams, Brantlee Binghom, Bryker Binghom, Lane Johnston, and Braden Johnston.

Services are under the direction of Ray & Martha's Funeral Home, Hobart, Oklahoma.

Dennis had requested that all donations in lieu of flowers be donated to Great Plains Youth and Family Services as a legacy to his wife, Linda.
