Delores Swanson

February 11, 1929 — October 23, 2012

Delores Ruth (Cox) Swanson was born on February 11, 1929, Southeast of Cooperton, Oklahoma to Clarence and Mabel (Stauffer) Cox. Delores passed away on Tuesday, October 23, 2012, after an extended illness.

Delores married Paul K. Swanson July 13, 1947. Paul and Delores shared 65 years of their life together on their ranch south of Cooperton and was a member of the First Baptist Church, Roosevelt, Oklahoma.

Delores received her Associate's Degree at Western Oklahoma State College and her Bachelor's Degree from Southwestern Oklahoma State University. She taught computer programming for 13 years at Western Technology Center in Burns Flat, Oklahoma.

Paul and Delores were recognized Farm Bureau's Farm Family of the year in 1961. Delores was an active member of the Home Demonstration Club, Searchlight Club, Farm Bureau Women's Program, and many professional businesses and teaching organizations.

Delores will be remembered as a devoted wife, loving mother, adored grandmother and great-grandmother. As a sister and daughter, Delores was loved and cherished. As a friend, Delores shared her kindness, wisdom, and words of encouragement. To her students, she was lovingly strict, and demanded "nothing less than their best". (A standard she maintained herself)

Delores loves being a "home-maker". She was an excellent seamstress, marvelous cook, and loved to sing at home and in the church. Delores' family continues to share wonderful memories of her "special" cherry pies, watermelon pickles, warm cinnamon rolls, and home-made candies.

Delores was a master china painter and doll maker. Over the years, she gifted her hand painted china to her family and friends. These pieces will be reminders of her love and her artistic talents.

Up to this moment, Delores has been blessed with seven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. She gave her grandchildren memories of hot summer days fishing, building rafts, picking "Jupe-Jupes", climbing trees, collecting lady bugs and grasshoppers, and eating warm backed cookies.

As a mother and grandmother, Delores seemed to know exactly when to pass out her... "just the right moment" hugs! And these "just the right moment" hugs calmed our fears and brought smiles to our hearts.
