Deanna Gayle Wattenbarger, 83, of Hobart, Oklahoma, passed away on December 7th, 2023. She was born on May 5, 1940, to Glyn and Monna (Jennings) Corbin in Hobart, Oklahoma. She grew up and attended school in Port. She was Valedictorian in high school and graduated from Port High School in 1958. After high school Deanna attended OSU for two years. She married her grade school classmate, David in 1961 and to this union they had four children. She then attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University, and received a degree in Education and graduated with honors in 1963. She was a member of the Alpha Phi Epsilon: Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society. She received a Master's Degree in Education from Southwestern Oklahoma State University in 1980. After receiving her Masters Degree, she was dual certified as a reading specialist and in early childhood education. Deanna taught ten years in Oklahoma City and twenty-seven years for the Hobart Public School system. She retired after teaching 37 years. After retirement, she volunteered as a reading specialist for 13 years. She was inducted into the Hobart Public Schools Educator Hall of Fame in 2012. Deanna was an avid reader and loved teaching children and adults how to read. She was involved in many civic clubs, which included Beta Upsilon, Kiowa County Retired Educators, and the Fortnightly Woman's Research Club. She was a volunteer at the Hobart Food Pantry. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Hobart and was very active with the United Methodist women. Deanna helped with Feed My Sheep, Vacation Bible School, annual bean suppers, and bazaars. She also served on many committees and boards within the church. She was on the board of Great Plains Youth and Family Services. She loved family get togethers and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren play sports. She was a sports fan and enjoyed going to the farm. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her, especially her family.

Memorial Service will be Monday, December 18 at 1:30 pm at Ray and Martha's Funeral Home, 306 West 11th ST, HWY 9 in Hobart, OK. Visitation will be Sunday, December 17, 2023 from 1:00 p.m., to 8:00 p.m., family welcoming guests from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at Ray & Martha's Funeral Home, Hobart, Oklahoma.
